Fourth Power Begins Commissioning of First Full-Scale Demonstration of its Multi-Day Energy Storage Technology

BEDFORD, MA, UNITED STATES, September 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Fourth Power, a leader in energy storage systems that store electricity as heat and convert it back into electricity using thermophotovoltaic (TPV) cells, today announced the opening of its new facility in Bedford, Massachusetts, where the company is building its first full-scale demonstration of its breakthrough technology.

The opening marks the start of a phased commissioning process to test, verify, and bring Fourth Power’s energy storage system to full operational status step by step. Once operational, the demonstration will showcase Fourth Power’s ability to store electricity as heat and convert it back into dispatchable, on-demand power when the grid needs it most.

The need for new sources of reliable power is becoming increasingly critical across the United States. Electricity demand is growing rapidly, while periods of peak demand are becoming longer and more frequent. Extreme weather, including increasingly severe winter storms, can further intensify these events, putting pressure on an aging grid and threatening both reliability and affordability for customers.

The start of commissioning marks a major milestone in Fourth Power’s transition from technology development to real-world operation and on its path to commercialization. Fourth Power’s technology offers an alternative to aging and inefficient gas-fired peaker plants that are currently used to meet periods of peak demand.
